Empowering Families To Achieve Their Breastfeeding Goals

In-Home Lactation Consultations

At the Confident Latch, we realize that feeding your baby can be one of the most stressful parts of having a newborn. We aim to help minimize that stress and ensure that you and your baby feel confident with your feeding plan. The days may be long, but the months truly are short. Let us help you make the most of every minute with your baby.

Expertise You Can Trust

After discharge you may feel that you need additional help breastfeeding- that’s where we come in! Some common breastfeeding problems that we see include painful nursing, difficulty latching, low milk supply, oversupply, painful pumping, poor infant weight gain, tongue or lip ties, and more! We can meet you at your house or meet virtually, whatever works best for you and your family.

Here’s what will happen at your lactation consultation:

  • Assessment of both mom and baby
  • Hands on assistance as needed
  • Evaluation of milk transfer
  • Pumping evaluation if needed
  • Development of a feeding plan to meet mom and baby’s needs
  • Provision of any necessary resources

At The Confident Latch, we use a technique called a “weighted feed” to determine how effective your baby is transferring milk at the breast. This data helps us to create a tailor made feeding plan just for you!

Please note that in the majority of cases, more than one appointment will be necessary to ensure success meeting your feeding goals.

How To Prepare For Your Consultation:

  • In order to get the most out of time together, please feed your baby 2-2.5 hours before the appointment. This may need adjusting your baby’s feeding schedule the day of your appointment.
  • If you are pumping, please pump 2-2.5 hours prior to your appointment.
  • If you are pumping and/or supplementing please have the equipment prepared, cleaned and ready for use.
  • If someone has been helping you with feedings, it would be beneficial to have that person join you for your appointment.
  • Keep a list of questions you think of leading up to your appointment. This way we can make sure you have all the answers you need.

 Follow Up

Each consultation will include one week of post-consult follow up. You can message us with questions, updates or to adjust feeding plans as needed.

In most cases, more than one appointment is necessary to ensure your success. Follow up appointments are generally shorter than initial appointments and may be scheduled at any time. We will let you know our recommendations at the conclusion of your appointment.
